LG Electronics Proposes New Indoor Ventilation Standards with Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology

LG Electronics and Korea Institute of Technology Sign MOU
Research on Ventilation Certification System Development and Integrated Management System
"Raising Awareness of Ventilation Needs and Presenting Innovative Solutions"

LG Electronics is partnering with the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT) to create indoor air quality management guidelines. They will develop a certification system for ventilation products and jointly work on projects to improve indoor air quality in facilities used by sensitive and vulnerable groups.

On the 13th, LG Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KICT covering these initiatives. The signing ceremony held at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, was attended by Bae Jeong-hyun, Senior Vice President of LG Electronics’ SAC Business Division, Chae Sang-cheol, Senior Vice President of Air Solution Marketing, and Song Tae-hyeop, Head of the Architecture Research Division at KICT.

Last year, KICT was designated as the first 'Indoor Environment Management Center' by the Ministry of Environment. Accordingly, KICT has conducted research to improve the quality of indoor air quality management through measurement devices and policy support. It also carries out air quality management and improvement support projects in facilities used by vulnerable groups.

This MOU was established to create a collaborative system to raise awareness of the necessity of ventilation. LG Electronics and KICT will work together on developing a certification system for ventilation products, verifying ventilation product performance and researching integrated management systems, providing technical support for building big data related to indoor air quality management, and jointly responding with technical and policy measures to present indoor air quality management guidelines.

LG Electronics has previously introduced a premium home ventilation system that, when linked with a system air conditioner, manages indoor air faster and more comfortably. This product expels indoor air contaminated by fine dust and harmful bacteria to the outside and supplies clean outside air filtered through a filter into the home.

LG Electronics and KICT will also jointly promote indoor air quality improvement projects targeting sensitive and vulnerable groups. The government supports projects to ensure proper indoor air quality management in various facilities where air quality is critical, such as daycare centers, nursing homes, and postpartum care centers, by providing expert diagnosis, measurement devices, air circulators, and dehumidifiers. LG Electronics and KICT plan to collaborate by leveraging their expertise in indoor air quality management.

Lee Jae-sung, Vice President and Head of the Air Solution Business Division at LG Electronics’ H&A Business Headquarters, said, "LG Electronics will widely promote the necessity of ventilation and provide differentiated customer experiences by presenting innovative solutions, while leading improvements in related systems."
