'Political Prosecution Special Task Force' 8 Lawmakers Hold Press Conference
Min Hyung-bae: "Prosecution Fabricates Cases for Political Purposes"
"Will Propose Special Prosecutor Law with the Opening of the 22nd National Assembly"
Members of the Democratic Party's 'Special Countermeasures Team for Political Prosecution Case Fabrication (Special Countermeasures Team)' claimed that 'cover swapping' and 'patchwork official documents' were used during the trial of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party leader. They stated that the prosecution deliberately manipulated official documents to secure false testimony unfavorable to Lee and announced plans to propose a special prosecutor law targeting the prosecutors involved in the fabrication.
At a press conference held at the National Assembly Communication Office on the afternoon of the 13th, the Special Countermeasures Team said, "In Lee's trial, the prosecution used the 'cover swapping' method, changing the cover of documents," and added, "They patched together the cover of an approved document with the content of an unapproved document." They continued, "They deceived witnesses with illegal forgery of official documents to extract false testimony," and fiercely criticized, "They even used patchwork documents in their patchwork investigation that predetermined the conclusion." Attending the conference were Jang Kyung-tae, chairman of the Countermeasures Committee against Prosecutorial Dictatorship and Political Oppression, Special Countermeasures Team leader Min Hyung-bae, and members Joo Cheol-hyun, Park Gyun-taek, Kim Hyun-jung, Lee Geon-tae, Han Min-su, and Kim Dong-a.

Lee is attending trials related to charges of breach of trust and bribery concerning Daejang-dong, Wirye New Town, and Seongnam FC. The Special Countermeasures Team stated, "The prosecution has so far presented the testimony of Choi, former head of the Seongnam City Corporate Support Division, to prove Lee's charges," and added, "However, when interrogating former head Choi, they presented a document with a swapped cover." According to the Special Countermeasures Team, the testimony obtained from former head Choi is based on false documents, making the testimony unreliable.
Special Countermeasures Team member Min Hyung-bae told reporters immediately after the press conference, "There are several other issues besides document manipulation," and said, "Since we have no way to discipline the prosecution, we will propose a special prosecutor law as soon as the 22nd National Assembly convenes." He added, "This is not about conducting a special prosecution on a specific case, but about investigating the prosecution's acts of covering up and distorting the truth during a series of investigations."

The Special Countermeasures Team intends to meet with former Gyeonggi Province Deputy Governor Lee Hwa-young. When asked if he plans to visit former Deputy Governor Lee again, Min replied, "We will try again." He continued, "On the morning of the 7th, we were notified (from the detention center) that visitation was not allowed due to a separate investigation, but it is still unclear what that investigation is about," and raised suspicions, saying, "When we requested the court to submit records of (former Deputy Governor Lee's) court appearance, they said the records were lost, but they claim they never lost them."
The Democratic Party launched the 'Special Countermeasures Team for Political Prosecution Case Fabrication' on the 22nd of last month. The team includes pro-Lee Jae-myung current lawmakers such as Min Hyung-bae, Joo Cheol-hyun, and Kim Yong-min, as well as a large number of 22nd general election winners. The so-called 'Daejang-dong legal defense team' includes elected members Park Gyun-taek, Yang Bu-nam, Kim Ki-pyo, and Lee Geon-tae, with Lee Seong-yoon, Noh Jong-myeon, Kim Moon-soo, Kim Dong-a, Kim Hyun-jung, and Han Min-su also joining.
