Haenam-type ESG Practice Contest: Residents' Ideas Catch the Eye

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, is conducting the 2024 Haenam-type ESG Practice Contest and has selected three organizations?Haenam Technical High School, Haenam Youth Association, and Chohyo?to support the implementation of their projects.

According to the county on the 13th, since last year, the Haenam-type ESG Practice Contest has been promoted targeting residents to share the vision of ESG and create opportunities to spread ESG awareness among the community.

This year, many local organizations applied, and after a thorough screening process, three final organizations were selected. Each selected organization will receive 10 million KRW to carry out specific ESG practices.

On the 9th, a business agreement ceremony for the Haenam-type ESG Practice Contest Project was held, followed by a performance.

First, Haenam Technical High School will lead a project titled “Haegong Plastic Mill.” Students will take the initiative to produce upcycled products using bottle caps collected through plogging activities around Haenam and practice ESG through sharing activities.

Additionally, they will conduct a No Plastic campaign to encourage residents’ participation for sustainable development.

The Haenam Youth Association will engage in environmental protection activities among its members, provide mentoring and career counseling for local youth, and promote discussion forums for youth networking and regional development.

Chohyo will create health drinks and natural soaps using discarded imperfect agricultural products to raise awareness about sustainable consumption.

The selected organizations will implement their projects from May to November and plan to share experiences and know-how among the organizations through a performance sharing meeting in December.

Haenam-gun is discovering policy tasks for Haenam-type ESG ethical management and promoting a county-wide citizen practice movement through participatory practice tasks involving residents.

Since the beginning of the year, they have continuously promoted the Haenam-type ESG practice relay campaign, ESG eco-friendly good travel, and related policy projects to build a consensus on ESG among citizens.

Moreover, recognized for their achievements in practicing ESG together with residents, Haenam-gun presented an excellent local government case at the World ESG Forum hosted by the Korea ESG Society on the 30th of last month.

County Governor Myung Hyun-kwan stated, “Through this pilot contest project, we will perfectly carry out the project to ensure that resident-participatory Haenam-type ESG can be practically established.” He added, “We will prioritize sustainable development for the future and do our best to continuously realize ESG values.”
