Songpa-gu to Host Children and Youth Festival 'HUG (H·U·G)'

In celebration of May as Youth Month, Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is hosting the 9th Songpa Children and Youth Festival, H·U·G, organized by the Songpa-gu Machon Youth Center, which will take place on the 15th at Seoul Nori Madang.

The festival name ‘H·U·G’ combines the initials of three themes: Hot place, Youth, and Grows. It offers various stages for young people, who will open the future, to freely showcase their talents and skills at Seoul’s only traditional Madang theater, ‘Seoul Nori Madang.’

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting with a congratulatory performance by the Jamsil Youth Center cheering squad, children will participate in ‘Songpa Golden Bell,’ a quiz to learn about the local area, followed by a magic show by popular magician Choi Hyun-woo.

The highlight is the ‘Youth Club Cultural Performance.’ This is an opportunity for young people to share the results of their activities and talents nurtured at Kiwoom Center, schools, and youth facilities. Performances include Nanta drumming, dance, fusion gugak, rap, and cheerleading.

Following this, the popular dance team ‘Lady Bounce,’ featured on the TV program 'Street Woman Fighter 2,' will perform to add excitement to the festival.

There will also be 14 experience booths reflecting the tastes of youth, including ▲Mobile Photo Studio ▲Cheering Stick Making ▲Phone Bead Strap Making ▲Slime Making ▲Healing My Mind with Fragrance, among others. After participating, visitors can stamp their festival promotional materials and exchange them for drinks or snacks.

At the commemorative ceremony, 15 exemplary youths and youth leaders will be awarded. The district specially selected awardees focusing on talent sharing and social activity participation to encourage meaningful youth experiences beyond academics. The honorees include out-of-school youths who help peers with self-taught guitar and art skills, and youths who showed exceptional interest in environmental issues and participated in last year’s ‘UN Environmental Youth Assembly’ held in Suwon.

District Mayor Seo Gang-seok said, “I hope this festival becomes a place where young people can temporarily set aside the burdens and worries of studying, fully enjoy themselves with peers, and create lasting memories. I ask for your support so that youths can nurture more diverse dreams and actively participate in activities for neighbors and society.”
