Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Conduct Intensive Crackdown on Illegal Lodging in Officetels The Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit will conduct crackdowns on illegal lodging businesses.

Gyeonggi Province will conduct a focused crackdown on illegal lodging businesses.

The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced that from the 13th to the 31st of this month, they will carry out a focused crackdown on illegal lodging businesses in 12 areas within the province, including Suwon, Bucheon, Seongnam, and Goyang, where officetels are densely concentrated.

In response to the recent surge in illegal lodging businesses using online shared lodging platforms, Gyeonggi Province will conduct this focused crackdown ahead of the summer vacation season to create a safe lodging environment.

The main targets of the crackdown include unregistered lodging operations and businesses that continue to operate despite receiving closure orders from administrative authorities.

Particularly, the crackdown will focus on operations running multiple rooms in officetels, apartments, and similar facilities to gain unfair profits. For businesses caught violating the law, administrative sanctions will be requested from the relevant local governments, and cases will be referred to the prosecution for strict action according to related laws.

Hong Eun-gi, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police, stated, "Illegal lodging businesses are blind spots in terms of safety and hygiene, and in the event of safety accidents such as fires, they can pose great risks." He added, "We will do our best to provide residents with a safe lodging environment through the crackdown on illegal lodging businesses."
