Songpa-gu to Train Borderline Intellectual Disability and Developmental Disability Individuals as 'Data Labelers'

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will conduct a 'Data Labeling Job Training' program as an active job support project for socially vulnerable groups such as individuals with borderline intellectual functioning and developmental disabilities.

Last year, the district planned the 'Data Labeling Job Training' for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning to support their social advancement and independence. Recognized for providing employment opportunities to this group, Songpa-gu was selected as an excellent autonomous district for accompanying the vulnerable by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Following last year, this year as well, Songpa-gu has been selected for the 'Seoul Metropolitan Government Accompanying the Vulnerable Public Contest' and plans to conduct data labeler training for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning.

In particular, this year, the training target will be expanded from 'individuals with borderline intellectual functioning' to include 'people with developmental disabilities.' Additionally, guardians of the trainees will participate in the training to enhance their understanding of data labeling and support smooth job-seeking activities as facilitators.

The training will be conducted in collaboration with Testworks, a local social enterprise specializing in this field, targeting 35 individuals with borderline intellectual functioning and their guardians, and 15 people with developmental disabilities and their guardians.

'Data labeling' refers to the task of collecting, storing, and verifying data necessary for artificial intelligence (AI) learning and assigning names to the data. The training curriculum includes ▲ basics of artificial intelligence ▲ career growth paths for data labelers ▲ practical training on AI data collection and processing platforms ▲ basic education on AI training datasets ▲ data labeling practice ▲ and job exploration through field experience.

This training aims to help individuals with borderline intellectual functioning and developmental disabilities learn and perform data labeling tasks.

After completion, customized support services will be provided to ensure successful social integration, including consulting for employment in the data labeler field for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning and job fairs for people with developmental disabilities.

Furthermore, to provide an optimal learning environment and emotional support for socially vulnerable groups, the training for people with developmental disabilities will be conducted in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Adaptation Support Center for Developmental Disabilities, and the training for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning will be held in collaboration with the Seoul Lifelong Education Support Center for Borderline Intellectual Functioning.

The training will be divided by target group: training for people with developmental disabilities will run from May 9 to July 8, and training for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning will take place from August 1 to November 30.

Recruitment for the second half of the year’s trainees will be held in July. For more details, please contact the Songpa-gu Social Economy Support Center by phone.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “I hope this training will provide practical help to individuals with borderline intellectual functioning and developmental disabilities who face difficulties in social advancement. We will continue to discover new education programs suitable for socially vulnerable groups and do our best to prepare customized support measures such as workforce development and employment linkage.”
