Na Kyung-won "Pension Incentives for Childbirth... Emergency Measures Needed"

"Low Birthrate Policy, Investment for the Future Not Welfare"

Na Kyung-won, the elected member of the People Power Party, met with Joo Hyung-hwan, Vice Chairman of the Low Fertility and Aging Society Committee, at the Government Seoul Office on the 10th and posted on Facebook afterward.

Na compared the low fertility issue to a "gray rhinoceros," saying it is "a term that refers to risks that have a high likelihood of occurring and significant impact but are easy to forget for the time being." She added, "It is a crisis that determines the fate of the nation, but so far, the political circles have not presented tangible measures regarding the low fertility issue."

Na emphasized that low fertility policies should be seen not as welfare but as investments for the future. She stated, "Vice Chairman Joo and I agreed on the need for bold low fertility measures, such as unprecedented levels of housing support," and added, "We also strongly proposed the necessity of pension reform linked to low fertility, including providing pension incentives upon childbirth."

She continued, "With a total fertility rate of 0.72 last year, extraordinary times require extraordinary measures," emphasizing, "This is an issue that requires cooperation beyond conservative and progressive lines, and across parties, so I will do my best to prepare effective policy alternatives in the 22nd National Assembly."

Meanwhile, Na was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Low Fertility and Aging Society Committee in October 2022 but was dismissed in January last year after conflicts with the Presidential Office over childbirth promotion policies and her candidacy for the March 8 party leadership election.
