Sookmyung Women's University Launches Chatbot 'AI Nunsong' Service... Providing Information in 4 Languages

Sookmyung Women's University announced on the 11th that it has launched the ‘AI Nunsong’ chatbot service, developed using ChatGPT and proprietary dialogue engine technology.

Named after Sookmyung Women's University’s mascot character ‘Nunsongi,’ the ‘AI Nunsong’ chatbot is a next-generation natural language chatbot that provides various information available on the university’s website in multiple languages. It translates and delivers answers in the language of the question, including Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese.

Since it learns real-time updates from the Korean website, foreigners can easily access the necessary information without a separate foreign language website. The startup ‘Mindlogic’ was responsible for developing AI Nunsong.

Sookmyung Women’s University explained, “Unlike existing chatbots that use keyword searches or rule/menu-based methods, AI Nunsong uses a natural language Q&A approach, allowing students to obtain information as if they were having a conversation.”

For example, if asked for a list of on-campus cafeterias serving breakfast or how to check attendance if a phone is lost, the chatbot provides guidance in a conversational Q&A format.

Additionally, to prevent hallucination?a phenomenon characteristic of generative AI where false information is presented as true due to insufficient data?all chatbot answers include sources and relevant links so users can verify the information themselves.

Sookmyung Women’s University plans to operate the AI Nunsong chatbot throughout this semester, monitoring user responses and addressing issues to eventually expand the scope of information provided.

The university’s Digital Information Innovation Office stated, “The chatbot naturally continues questions and answers and smoothly handles topic changes, creating an effect similar to 24-hour phone counseling. Since it provides information at the level of Korean users in various languages on the website, it is expected to improve information accessibility for non-Korean-speaking students.”
