Scheduled Corporate Registration and Local Office Opening in First Half
Entry Focused on PB Products like WakeMake
"Japan Selected as Priority Country for Global Expansion Strategy"
Olive Young plans to enter the Japanese market in the first half of this year. This move comes as K-beauty products gain popularity locally in Japan, alongside strong performance from Olive Young's private brand (PB) products.
According to industry sources on the 10th, CJ Olive Young is pushing forward with its entry into the Japanese market to expand its global business. Specifically, it plans to complete corporate registration and open a local office to establish a Japanese corporation within the first half of this year. An Olive Young representative explained, "Japan is geographically close and has similar consumer tendencies, and interest in K-beauty has been rising recently. Along with North America, Japan has been selected as a priority country for Olive Young’s global expansion strategy."
Currently, Olive Young’s global business operates under a 'two-track' strategy consisting of platform business and brand business. The platform business runs a global mall accessible in 150 countries. The brand business exports beauty PB products such as Biohealbo and WakeMake. Among these, Japan is considered a key country for the brand business, according to Olive Young.
Accordingly, Olive Young plans to initially enter the local market in Japan focusing on PB products. The goal is to first raise awareness of K-beauty products through PB products.
The company states that Olive Young’s PB products are already receiving positive responses in Japan. Olive Young sells PB products in Japan through local vendors. Sales of Olive Young PB products in the Japanese market have shown a high growth rate, increasing by an average of 125% annually over the past four years (2020?2023). Sales in the first quarter of this year also rose by 76% compared to the same period last year.
A CJ Olive Young representative said, "The K-beauty industry, centered on small and indie brands, has recently begun to receive significant attention overseas. We will contribute to expanding the activities of K-beauty brands, focusing on global strategic countries such as the United States and Japan."
Meanwhile, Olive Young will set up a promotional booth at the K-pop concert 'KCON JAPAN 2024,' held in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, from today until the 12th, to meet local customers.
