Oh Eon-seok, Dobong-gu Mayor, Visits Changdong Giseong Commercial Area to Explore Measures for Revitalizing Business District
Visits Changdong Station Shopping Street and Changdong Sinchang Market, Accompanied by Heads of Related Departments
Listens to On-site Merchants' Opinions and Collects Feedback for Future Policy Reflection
On June 8, Oh Eon-seok, the mayor of Dobong-gu, visited one shopping street and one traditional market. The visit aimed to find ways to revitalize the Chang-dong Station commercial area so that the development momentum of Chang-dong's new economic hub can flow into the existing commercial district of Chang-dong.
The first place he visited was the Chang-dong Station Shopping Street near Exit 1 of Chang-dong Station. Although the environment and facilities have improved with the establishment of Chang-dong Aureune, the Photo Museum, the Robot Science Museum, and Seed Cube Chang-dong near the shopping street, the commercial area is facing many difficulties in business activities due to traffic issues and disconnection from nearby residents.
At the site, Mayor Oh directly listened to the difficulties faced by the shopping street merchants and sought solutions with the relevant departments. He told the accompanying staff, “I hope the requests of the Chang-dong Station Shopping Street Merchants' Association will be actively reviewed and reflected in the reorganization of the traffic system around Chang-dong Station.”
Afterwards, Mayor Oh visited Chang-dong Sinchang Market to encourage merchants struggling with the sluggish economy and rising raw material costs and exchanged opinions on ways to restore the market's commercial vitality.
Mayor Oh’s visit has raised expectations among merchants in the existing commercial district of Chang-dong for the recovery of their business area. The president of the Chang-dong Station Shopping Street said, “It is refreshing that the mayor empathized with and explained the difficulties that merchants have continuously raised on-site. I hope we can solve the issues one by one starting with those that can be addressed immediately, so that the existing commercial district regains its vitality as before.”
Mayor Oh Eon-seok stated, “The answer to all problems lies on-site. Although we cannot solve all citizen inconveniences at once, I will visit the field, communicate, and steadily resolve the issues one by one.”
