The Air Force 1st Fighter Wing (hereinafter ‘1st FW’) worked up a sweat conducting runway damage recovery training together with the Navy 3rd Fleet at the base’s damage recovery training ground.
The training held on the 9th was organized to share the Air Force’s runway damage recovery techniques and to strengthen the joint operation capabilities between the Air Force and Navy.
The training began with a scenario assuming a large crater caused by enemy attack on the 1st FW runway.
Once the situation was declared, about 70 Air Force and Navy training personnel mobilized 14 heavy equipment vehicles, including excavators and dump trucks, to quickly carry out runway damage recovery to ensure safe aircraft takeoff and landing.
The earthwork team immediately deployed to the site and used heavy equipment to perform leveling work by filling the crater.
Next, the transport team swiftly delivered Folded Fiber glass Mats (FFM) to the crater, and the joint Air Force-Navy installation team installed them, perfectly restoring the runway.
Afterwards, the Air Force and Navy training personnel concluded the training by organizing the training contents through tactical discussions and discussing future development plans.
Captain Yoo Pureun (Chief of Operations Control Office, Engineer Battalion) said, “Since not only the Air Force but also the Army and Navy operate various air power assets, we were able to share each other’s know-how and further improve the skills of the training personnel through this training. We will continue to conduct such joint training to solidify the cooperation system and strive to maintain the best operational readiness.”
