There have been claims that the heated pool at the swimming pool of the Sangmu National Sports Center in Gwangju Metropolitan City is not functioning properly, causing increased inconvenience for users.
On the 9th, Kim Tae-jin, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, urged improvements in the temperature of the heated pool, expansion of children’s swimming lessons, and increased convenience through efficient scheduling of swimming instructors during a 5-minute free speech at the opening of the 321st extraordinary session.
Councilor Kim stated, “The low temperature of the heated pool is a structural issue caused by operating two heated pools and one lane pool with a single pump,” adding, “Under the current single pump condition, even if the temperature of the heated pool is raised, the water temperature ultimately adjusts to that of the lane pool.”
He also pointed out, “Currently, children’s lessons are only one program with 25 participants out of 17 swimming lesson programs, which is far from meeting the citizens’ demands.” Furthermore, he claimed, “By efficiently organizing the work schedule of the three public swimming instructors, the number of programs can be expanded to a total of 24 without additional personnel or budget.”
In addition, he criticized the Seo-gu Facilities Management Corporation’s desk-bound administration, which has avoided addressing the persistent complaints about the swimming pool temperature for over a year since its opening by saying, ‘The perception varies from person to person.’
