Incheon City announced on the 9th that it will select 20 Incheon-type public nursing scholarship students to ensure a stable supply of nurses at the medical center and to cultivate local public healthcare personnel.
This is double the number from last year. Each student will receive an annual scholarship of up to 10 million KRW and will be required to work for two years at Incheon Medical Center after graduation.
The application period for scholarship documents is until the 31st of this month. The city plans to select public nursing scholarship students through a first round of document screening and a second round of interviews, targeting fourth-year nursing students recommended by nursing universities nationwide.
Other information such as selection criteria for scholarship students can be found on the recruitment site of the Incheon Medical Center website.

The public nursing scholarship project was first implemented last year to address the nurse supply issue at Incheon Medical Center. The first batch of 10 scholarship students, selected through a competition with a ratio of 5.4 to 1, have been working at Incheon Medical Center since March this year.
The nurse vacancy rate at Incheon Medical Center reached 38% in 2020, 22% in 2021, and 22% in 2022, with about 40 nurses leaving each year. Due to this, the prolonged shortage of nursing staff has caused difficulties in fulfilling the role of the regional public hospital.
An official from Incheon City stated, "We have doubled the number of selected students compared to last year," and added, "We hope that with many nursing students applying, the Incheon-type public nursing scholarship project will be revitalized and contribute to establishing a stable foundation for public health care."
