Real-Time Monitoring Using Advanced Equipment Such as Unmanned Odor Collectors
Ulju-gun will operate a ‘Special Odor Patrol Team for Odor Vulnerable Periods’ for six months from this month until October to improve the residents' perceived environment in preparation for the summer season, when odor generation is a concern.
The special odor patrol team consists of one team with two members. On weekdays, it operates from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. after working hours, and on holidays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The patrol team focuses on monitoring key management facilities within Onsan Industrial Complex and businesses that repeatedly cause odor complaints, conducting odor patrols. They also carry out environmental pollution surveillance activities covering overall environmental violations such as water pollution and illegal waste dumping.
When an odor is detected, the Odor Integrated Situation Room tracks the source of the odor using odor prediction modeling. The situation room is equipped with 38 odor sensors, 7 weather measuring devices, 8 high-performance CCTVs monitoring chimneys, and a mobile measurement vehicle capable of odor measurement and sample collection.
The situation room monitors odor complaint-prone areas such as Onsan Industrial Complex and Samdong-myeon in real time and conducts detailed inspections and sample collection at emission sources using the information on odor emitters.
An official from Ulju-gun stated, “We will strengthen surveillance of odor-emitting businesses with advanced equipment to raise business owners’ awareness and prevent environmental pollution,” adding, “Companies causing environmental pollution will face strong administrative measures to contribute to creating a pleasant living environment for residents.”
