Gyeonggi Province has identified 33 companies violating related laws, including failure to conduct self-quality inspections, among manufacturers and processors of sanitary products.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police announced on the 9th that from April 1 to 19, they inspected 360 sanitary product manufacturing and processing companies in the province and found 33 companies (36 cases) violating related laws such as failure to conduct self-quality inspections and breaches of business operator compliance requirements.

Among the major violations, Company A, which manufactures detergents and rinsing aids, is required to conduct self-quality inspections at least once every three months to verify compliance with standards and specifications, but it was confirmed that they had not conducted such inspections since April of last year.

Company B was caught during this crackdown for manufacturing disposable cups without preparing production and work records or documents related to raw material inventory. Company C was found producing oven cleaner, a cooking utensil detergent, using raw materials that were three months past their expiration date.

Company D produced and stored paper cups for sale without labeling the business name, location, manufacturing date, and other information on the paper cup boxes or packaging.

Company E was confirmed to have operated without separating the workspace and warehouse, manufacturing and packaging disposable chopsticks inside the warehouse where products were stored.

In addition, the Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police collected 23 products including sanitary wet wipes and wet tissues for food service establishments and requested testing from the Gyeonggi Provincial Institute of Health and Environment. The test results detected fluorescent brighteners in one sanitary wet wipe product, which was reported to the relevant city and county authorities, and the related individuals will be booked and investigated.

Under the current Sanitary Products Management Act, each violation is punishable by imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.

Hong Eun-gi, head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police, stated, "Since sanitary products come into direct or indirect contact with the human body and are frequently used, illegal acts during the manufacturing process can pose serious health and safety risks. We will strengthen proactive safety management of sanitary products to eradicate illegal activities."
