Wando-gun Releases 2 Million Juvenile Shrimp to Enhance Fisheries Resources

Supported by Jeonnam Marine Fisheries Science Institute, Released into Geumil-eup and Gogeum-myeon Waters Today

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that it released 2 million juvenile Kuruma prawns into the waters of Geumil-eup and Gogeum-myeon on the 8th.


The juvenile prawn release event, aimed at enhancing fishery resources and increasing fishermen's income, was attended by officials from the Jeollanam-do Marine Fisheries Science Institute, Wando-gun officials, and residents from various villages.

Following the release of 8 million juvenile prawns last year in Samdu-ri, Gunoe-myeon and Nongsang-ri, Gogeum-myeon, this year, 1 million prawns were released each in Wolsong-ri, Geumil, and Deokdong-ri, Gogeum waters.


The 2 million juvenile prawns were provided free of charge by the Resource Development Research Institute of the Jeollanam-do Marine Fisheries Science Institute. Kuruma prawns are the largest species of shrimp inhabiting the southwestern coast, and the prawns released this time were juveniles measuring 1.2 cm.


An official from the county stated, “Kuruma prawns have high economic value,” adding, “We will continue to promote the release of high-income species juveniles to increase fishermen's income and create a prosperous sea.”
