Currently 43 years old, Mr. A does not have a high annual salary but owns a 400 million won apartment in Gyeonggi-do. Moreover, he has no loans, so he has no debts to repay. The house is fully furnished and equipped with household items, so the bride-to-be only needs to move in. On the other hand, the 41-year-old bride-to-be has saved a total of 50 million won. Mr. A thought they could live happily in the house he prepared regardless of their respective salaries or assets, but he felt hurt by the bride-to-be’s cold attitude after learning about his salary. Furthermore, the bride-to-be later asked Mr. A to show her his criminal record certificate and family relation certificate. She demanded that they visit the community center together and that he obtain the documents in her presence.
Disappointed by this behavior, Mr. A asked netizens whether he should break off the engagement. Netizens responded with comments such as, "It seems the bride-to-be does not love Mr. A," "It looks like hell will open after marriage," and "As a woman myself, this really seems wrong." On the other hand, some netizens expressed the opinion, "From the bride-to-be’s perspective, she is anxious before marriage, so this is understandable."
Meanwhile, according to a 2022 survey conducted by a marriage information company targeting 1,000 newlyweds who married within two years, the total wedding cost was 287.9 million won. The burden of wedding expenses was 60.1% for the groom and 39.9% for the bride. In terms of amount, the groom paid about 172.72 million won, and the bride about 114.67 million won. The burden of housing costs was 65% and 35%, respectively.
