Korea Leisure Industry Institute Announces 'Leisure White Paper 2024'
Mass Market Weekday Down 0.6%, Saturday Down 0.3%
Membership Weekday Up 1.3%, Saturday Up 1.2%
Green fees at 244 public golf courses with 18 holes or more in Korea have been found to have slightly decreased.
According to the 'Leisure White Paper 2024' published by the Korea Leisure Industry Research Institute on the 16th, the usage fee for public golf courses was recorded at 169,600 KRW on weekdays and 213,700 KRW on Saturdays as of the highest price in May this year. Compared to a year ago, this represents a decrease of 0.6% on weekdays and 0.3% on Saturdays. However, compared to May 2020, four years ago, both weekday and Saturday fees remain about 40,000 KRW higher.
Non-member green fees at 137 private golf clubs nationwide (excluding Jeju Island) also increased this year. As of May, the non-member usage fee at private golf clubs was 211,800 KRW on weekdays, up 1.3% from a year ago, and 263,200 KRW on Saturdays, up 1.2%.
The Korea Leisure Industry Research Institute analyzed that "due to the COVID-19 special demand surge causing a sharp increase in public golf course fees, private clubs raised non-member fees additionally as they appeared relatively cheaper."
Seo Cheon-beom, director of the Korea Leisure Industry Research Institute, pointed out, "Although public golf course fees have decreased as the golf boom subsides, they are still expensive," adding, "To attract users who are staying away from domestic golf courses by going overseas for golf expeditions, golf course fees need to be lowered further."
