Seoul Women’s University held the 'Rest Forest' festival, the representative event of the 'Nowon Green Campus Town' project, on the 4th at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail in Nowon-gu, Seoul.
Now in its 6th year, this event is organized through the collaboration of Nowon-gu, Seoul Women’s University, and Samyook University, aiming to create a community where nature and culture coexist. This year, the SI Education Center of Seoul Women’s University co-planned and operated the event, and POSCO Group company N2B, which has been carrying out ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) initiatives with Seoul Women’s University, also participated.
The festival featured the theme of ‘Resource Circulation & Zero Waste’ and offered experiential programs where participants could experience the value of recycling, such as making eco-friendly upcycled butterfly mirror grip-toks, handmade recycled paper sachets, and Tetra Pak repurposed carnation flower pots, along with educational sessions to raise awareness about resource circulation.
Professor Yoon Su-jin of the SI Education Center at Seoul Women’s University said, “For university students, it provided an opportunity to learn in the local community, and for local residents and children, it became a chance to think about environmental issues through enjoyable experiences. I hope that the collaboration between universities, companies, and local governments will diversify approaches that simultaneously create social and educational values such as ‘nurturing next-generation changemakers’ and ‘meeting the needs of the local community.’”
Meanwhile, the proceeds from the market booths were donated to the ‘Inje-gun Forest Protection Project,’ adding significance to the event as a resource circulation and zero waste initiative.
