The Most Fragrant Rest in the World... Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Trail Coffee Festival 2023 1st Coffee Festival Venue

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the "2nd Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Path Coffee Festival," showcasing a diverse coffee culture.

The event will take place on the 12th along approximately 680 meters of the Gyeongchun Line forest path, from Gongneung Station on Line 7 to Dongbu Apartment Samgeori, and the area will be operated as a car-free zone on the day of the event.

The "Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Path Coffee Festival" was planned as part of revitalizing the commercial district of this area, which has become a notable spot in Seoul due to its beautiful forest path and the organically developed cafe street.

The second section of the Gyeongchun Line Forest Path, also known as the ‘Gongridan-gil,’ features a charming cluster of small but unique cafes, dessert shops, and accessory stores since the opening of the forest path. The district office has prepared various attractions so visitors can fully enjoy leisure culture with coffee, themed around the scenery and commercial characteristics of this street.

Key highlights of the event include ▲ booths representing 18 coffee bean producing countries and coffee culture experiences ▲ booths from major local cafes and dessert shops in Gongneung-dong as well as famous domestic cafes ▲ exhibitions of artworks themed on local food and coffee ▲ performances, coffee blind tests, and the WCC (World Coffee Championship).

First, there will be diverse coffee experiences. Visitors can taste coffee from 18 coffee-producing countries worldwide, including Guatemala, Kenya, Ethiopia, and El Salvador, and experience the traditional cultures of these countries. Additionally, 20 booths featuring coffee extraction demonstrations and other activities will be operated, attracting coffee enthusiasts.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon-gu held a meeting with the Ambassador of El Salvador to Korea on May 9, following a meeting with the Ambassador of Guatemala in March, to ensure the successful hosting of the coffee festival and to continue exchanges through coffee culture.

More than 30 local cafes and dessert shops representing the Gyeongchun Line Forest Path will gather to showcase the unique character of their coffee. In this section, where about 50 booths will be operated, five famous cafes from across the country, including Yudong Coffee from Jeju, which has gained nationwide fame, will also participate.

At the main stage set up in front of Gongneung Station, the WCC (World Coffee Championship) barista competition and performances by singer Kim Ki-tae and the band Travel Sketch will raise the event’s atmosphere.

Visitors can also enjoy various foods, coffee-themed art exhibitions, busking performances, and photo zones while strolling through the event site and forest path with coffee.

Meanwhile, to reduce disposable waste during the event, the district office plans to use reusable and eco-friendly tableware at booths and offer a 1,000 KRW discount on coffee beverages to participants who bring their own tumblers.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon-gu said, “This will be a rich festival satisfying all five senses with the scenery of the Gyeongchun Line Forest Path, the taste and aroma of coffee, beautiful music, and various experiences,” adding, “We will use this festival as an opportunity to widely promote the charm of this area and develop it into a commercial district representing leisure culture with coffee.”
