Guro-gu Conducts Dementia Elderly Missing Person Response Drill

Simulated Training Assuming Dementia Elderly Missing Situations ‘Ji(G)Bro Project’…First in Seoul Autonomous District

Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) conducted a simulated training exercise for missing dementia patients called the "G(Bro) Project" at Gocheok Neighborhood Market in Gocheok 2-dong at 2 p.m. on the 8th, which is Parents' Day.

Guro-gu is the first autonomous district in Seoul to carry out a simulated training exercise for missing dementia patients.

The "G(Bro) Project" was named to signify the hope that dementia patients safely return home and also takes the first letter of "Guro" in English.

The training lasted about two hours based on a hypothetical scenario of a missing dementia patient, with around 300 participants including Mayor Moon Heon-il, members of the Gocheok Neighborhood Market Merchants Association, and market users.

Before the main training, the Guro-gu Dementia Safety Center conducted a missing prevention campaign featuring dementia patient behavior characteristics, missing response methods, and a missing prevention O.X quiz, while the Guro Police Station promoted pre-registration of fingerprints for dementia patients.

The exercise simulated the process of discovering a person acting as a dementia patient wandering the market, reporting to the police station, and the police handing the individual over to their family, enabling anyone to respond appropriately in an actual missing situation.

In particular, the district explained that in addition to the Guro-gu Dementia Safety Center, the market merchants association and Guro Police Station participated in this training to cooperate in establishing a community response system for preventing missing dementia patients.

Mayor Moon Heon-il of Guro-gu said, "I hope this simulated training for missing dementia patients will help build a more robust community safety net," and added, "We will continue to do our best to create a community where dementia patients and their families can live with peace of mind."

Meanwhile, Guro-gu plans to conduct a second simulated training (experiential type) at Deokil Electronics Technical High School at 2 p.m. on June 13.
