'Opposition to Medical School Expansion' Medical Students' Injunction Against University President Dismissed Again

The Civil Division 50 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sang-hoon) dismissed on the 8th the provisional injunction application filed by 1,786 students from national universities including Kyungpook National University, Gyeongsang National University, Pusan National University, Chonnam National University, and Chungnam National University against their respective university presidents and the president of the Korea Council for University Education, seeking to prohibit changes to the college admission implementation plan.

Earlier, medical students from Kyungpook National University and others filed the provisional injunction on the 26th of last month, requesting a ban on changes to admission quotas by universities with which they had learning contracts, arguing that such changes could degrade the quality of education.

The court held a hearing on the provisional injunction application on the 3rd, but it ended after four minutes as the medical students' representatives did not attend.

Attorney Lee Byung-chul, representing the medical students, stated, "Since the outcome of this case will be essentially the same as the provisional injunction application filed on the 30th of last month, which is substantially the same case, there is no need to attend," and thus did not appear at the hearing.

Previously, the court had made the same decision on the 30th of last month regarding the provisional injunction application filed by medical students from Kangwon National University, Jeju National University, and Chungbuk National University.
