A man in his twenties has been indicted for repeatedly sending threatening messages to the victim of the "Busan Roundhouse Kick Incident" via social networking services (SNS).
On May 8, the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor: Jung Hyunseung) announced that it had indicted a man in his twenties, identified as A, without detention on charges including violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (obscene acts using communication media), intimidation, and violation of the Anti-Stalking Act.
Between August 11 and October 4 of last year, A is accused of sending the victim approximately ten threatening messages via her SNS account, causing secondary harm by inducing sexual humiliation and disgust. He also threatened to assault the victim, stating that she "should be beaten."
After receiving the victim's complaint, the Busanjin Police Station referred A to the prosecution in February. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office, which has jurisdiction over A's residence, subsequently took over the case from the Busan District Prosecutors' Office.
The prosecution stated, "We will respond strictly to secondary offenses against crime victims to protect them, and we will do our utmost to ensure that an appropriate sentence is handed down through a thorough prosecution process."
The "Busan Roundhouse Kick Incident" refers to a case in 2022 in Busanjin-gu, Busan, where a man in his thirties, identified as Lee, followed a woman returning home in the early morning hours for about ten minutes before brutally assaulting her in the lobby of an officetel building. In September last year, the Supreme Court finalized a 20-year prison sentence for Lee, who was convicted of rape and murder under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
