Yoon Seok-yeol to Hold Press Conference on the 9th... Criticizes the Revived Chief of Civil Affairs as a "Trick" After 1 Year and 9 Months
The Democratic Party of Korea once again pressured President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is set to hold a press conference in a day, to accept the Livelihood Recovery Support Fund and the Special Prosecutor Act for Corporal Chae. They also criticized the reinstatement of the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs, which had been abolished under the current administration, calling it a "trick."

On the morning of the 8th, Park Chan-dae, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, "(President Yoon) is expected to fully accept the 250,000 won Livelihood Recovery Support Fund for all citizens," adding, "If the Livelihood Recovery Support Fund is provided through expiring local currency with a set usage period, it will breathe new life into self-employed individuals and small business owners and serve as a catalyst to revive the stagnant economy."
He also urged acceptance of the Special Prosecutor Act for Corporal Chae. Floor Leader Park said, "We hope you promise to fully accept the Special Prosecutor Act for Corporal Chae," and argued, "If you are a true conservative, if you truly care for the youth, and if you genuinely value the lives of the people, you should actively step forward to uncover the truth." He continued, "Suggesting to discuss the special prosecutor appointment after reviewing the investigation results from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) is either a frivolous remark or tantamount to covering up the truth," emphasizing, "There is no reason to delay any further."
They also criticized the revival of the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs. President Yoon announced the day before that he would reinstall the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs office, which had been abolished under the current administration, and appoint former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Joo-hyun as Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs. Jeong Cheong-rae, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, said, "Creating the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs office as a trick to listen to public sentiment will not be able to sway public opinion," and claimed, "In my view, since words, writing, and law have failed, it appears to be an attempt to directly control through the prosecutorial sword."
President Yoon is scheduled to hold a press conference on the 9th to mark his second anniversary in office. This press conference will be the first in one year and nine months since the 100-day press conference in August 2022. The press conference will consist of President Yoon delivering a message to the public followed by a Q&A session with reporters. The Q&A session is planned to last about one hour.
