Play "Nue" Featuring the Story of Deposed Queen Yoon and Eoudong

May 31 to June 2 at Daehangno Arts Theater Grand Hall

The theater company Kimjanghaneunal will premiere its new play "Nue" from May 31 to June 2 at the Daehangno Arts Theater Grand Theater.

"Nue" was selected as an official entry for the 45th Seoul Theater Festival, which opened on the 1st. In 2020, "Nue" was chosen for the National Theater Company's online ongoing script submission program called "Script Mailbox" and held a reading session. The company explained that they combined the narrative of the 5th Okrang Playwriting Award-winning work "Gwanneung" with the script "Nue" to create a deeper story and present the play.

The play "Nue" is a creative work based on the stories of familiar historical figures such as King Seongjong, Deposed Queen Yun, and Eouludong, enhanced with theatrical imagination.

Play "Nue" Featuring the Story of Deposed Queen Yoon and Eoudong

The protagonists of "Nue," Yun and Dong, are friends who share their innermost feelings only through letters and meet just once a year on the Dano Festival. Yun is selected as a concubine of King Seongjong, gives birth to a son, and rises to the position of queen but suffers cold treatment from Seongjong and becomes a deposed queen. This character resembles the historical figure Deposed Queen Yun, who was the mother of King Yeonsangun.

Dong is expelled from her in-laws' house and shunned by her birth family because she cannot bear an heir. Unintentionally, Dong breaks away from traditional customs and lives a free life, attracting the attention of Prince Wolsan. Prince Wolsan's affection for Dong leads him to misunderstand the relationship between Dong and Seongjong and to report them. Deposed Queen Yun and Dong are ultimately executed by King Seongjong. The historical figure Prince Wolsan was Seongjong's elder brother.

The cast of "Nue" includes actors Kim Su-an, Hong Eun-jung, Han Jeong-ho, Na Eun-seon, Lee Jeong-hoo, Kim Du-jin, Lee Ui-ryeong, Park Ji-eun, Lee Su-jeong, Park Bo-seung, Hong Eun-pyo, and Park Hae-yoon.

Tickets for "Nue" can be purchased on the Arko Daehangno Arts Theater website, Interpark Ticket, Yes24 Ticket, and Play Ticket.
