In an apology statement on the same day, HiteJinro stated, "Consumer complaints were received regarding off-odor and turbidity in some Filite Fresh 355ml can products produced at the Gangwon factory on March 13 and 25," and announced the recall of the affected products. They added, "As a preventive measure, we will also voluntarily recall products produced on April 3 and 17 and inspect the production line at the factory."

Earlier, some consumers filed complaints reporting foreign substances resembling mucus in the purchased products. HiteJinro stated, "We became aware of the issue around the 22nd of last month and immediately stopped shipments of products from the affected dates and actively implemented recalls of already shipped products."

Regarding the foreign substances resembling mucus, HiteJinro explained, "So far, it has been identified that the cause is lactic acid bacteria due to a temporary issue in the production process, resulting from the combination of polysaccharides and proteins," and added, "It has been confirmed to be harmless to the human body."

They also said, "All employees consider this matter very seriously," and "We will do our best to thoroughly inspect and take appropriate measures to ensure that no harm comes to consumers or business partners."
