The event will be attended by Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Kim Mi-gon, President of the Korea Senior Human Resources Development Institute, directors of senior clubs from Dong, Haeundae, Saha, Geumjeong, Gangseo, and Sasang districts, as well as about 700 members of the Our Neighborhood Social Value Management (ESG) Resource Circulation Group.

On this day, ▲participating organizations will pledge to cooperate for a livable Busan by supporting healthy retirement through the creation of eco-friendly senior jobs for the elderly in Busan, and ▲members of the Our Neighborhood Social Value Management (ESG) Resource Circulation Group will take an oath to lead carbon neutrality in the era of climate crisis.

The ‘Our Neighborhood Social Value Management (ESG) Resource Circulation Group’ consists of a total of 668 members through mutual cooperation among the city, the Korea Senior Human Resources Development Institute, and six senior clubs in the Busan area, and plans to expand to about 1,000 members by the end of this year.

The Resource Circulation Group is composed of six senior clubs in the Busan area (Dong, Haeundae, Saha, Geumjeong, Gangseo, Sasang), with 250 members from Geumjeong, 200 from Dong, 100 from Haeundae, totaling 668 participants.

In particular, the Resource Circulation Group project started last year as the nation’s first pilot project in Busan, and in August last year, it was selected as a nationwide project through the Central Deliberation Committee of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and is currently spreading nationwide, including Michuhol District in Incheon this year.

The Resource Circulation Group is tasked with visiting demand sites within the city to collect waste plastics (PET bottles, bottle caps, etc.), and sorting and classifying them. They also participate in washing processes to remove films and foreign substances, excluding plastics contaminated during the sorting process.

The city and the Korea Senior Human Resources Development Institute have agreed, in collaboration with Busan Transportation Corporation, to collect waste plastics generated at 83 stations on subway lines 1 and 2 to discover demand sites for waste plastics.

They are also cooperating with Korea Railroad Corporation to collect waste plastics generated at Busan Station, and it is expected that the increase in waste plastic collection volume will greatly contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in the future.

The Resource Circulation Group plans to establish itself as a sustainable eco-friendly senior job project in Busan through linkage and cooperation with the 16 Our Neighborhood Social Value Management (ESG) Centers to be established in the future, and further expand as a nationwide model.

The city plans to establish the 3rd, 4th, and 5th branches of the Our Neighborhood Social Value Management (ESG) Centers in Haeundae-gu, Yeongdo-gu, and Jung-gu this year, with the goal of establishing one center in each district and county, totaling 16 centers.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “This project is at the forefront of overcoming environmental issues and the climate crisis, which are directly linked to the future of humanity,” and added, “We will continue to create eco-friendly senior jobs and complete the Busan-style resource circulation platform to make Busan a livable city recognized worldwide through carbon neutrality practices in the super-aged and climate crisis era.”
