Dobong-gu, Leap to Gangbuk New Industry Hub through Future Industry Development
'Seed Cube Changdong' and 'Seoul Startup Hub Changdong' as Future Industry Bases
Fostering '3D Content Production' Companies Centered on XR (Extended Reality) Studio
Dobong-gu is expanding strategic investments in future industries such as robotics and XR to attract young people. Along with this, it is demonstrating the capability to systematically support and grow startups, leading many companies to relocate their headquarters to Dobong-gu.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is making future industries a new growth engine and is emerging as a leading new industry hub in the northern Seoul area. The two policies promoted by the district?attracting future companies and discovering new industry enterprises?are now showing tangible results.
The district is fully committed to settling excellent companies that have grown in the ‘Startup Hub Changdong’ in Dobong-gu and attracting external companies. As a result, in March, the robotics company ‘ALUX’ expanded and relocated to ‘Seed Cube Changdong’.
‘ALUX’ is a company that develops and manufactures robotics and coding educational tools. After its establishment in 2015, it moved to ‘Startup Hub Changdong’ in 2021, achieved sales of 50 billion KRW last year, and settled in ‘Seed Cube Changdong’ this March. Recently, it has also entered the drone business, producing over 50,000 multicopter finished products annually, ranking first in the domestic micro-drone production and development sector.
On May 3rd, Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, visited ALUX to encourage its business activities, stating, “The district will continue to take an interest so that ALUX can grow further in Dobong-gu.” Regarding ALUX being selected as the preferred negotiator for the operation of the Seoul Robot Artificial Intelligence Science Museum exhibition, he said, “Since 2015, ALUX has proven its capabilities by hosting the professional robot championship (G-PRC) world competition with over 10,000 participants annually (a cumulative total of 120,000). The science museum will open in July, and I hope they will contribute to exhibition operation and content planning and development. Also, I ask local companies to play their part in creating youth jobs.”
Besides ALUX, the district is gathering prominent companies in Changdong to attract young populations through corporate attraction. Recently, four companies have settled in Seed Cube Changdong. This month, Dobong-gu plans to sign an ‘Excellent Company Attraction Cooperation MOU’ with the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) to attract more companies.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, “Attracting companies leads to the influx of young people, which in turn revitalizes the local economy. Looking ahead to the next 100 years, the district will continue to attract and support future new industry companies in Dobong-gu.”
In addition to attracting companies, the district is focusing on nurturing ‘3D content production’ companies centered on XR (Extended Reality) studios. The XR field is a future industry area currently expanding into various sectors such as games, animation, movies, dramas, architecture, and music, based on ‘3D video content.’
Currently, the district is collaborating with Seoul City to promote content development and related company discovery and support projects based on the special facility ‘XR Studio’ within the ‘Seoul Startup Hub Changdong,’ and has recently discovered four new companies.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, “We plan to concentrate and grow XR-related infrastructure, personnel, and companies within the region to eventually become the ‘domestic hub for 3D video content production.’”
