'Understanding the 2040 Incheon Urban Master Plan Revision... Formation of Expert Advisory Group'

Incheon City announced on the 6th that it has formed an expert advisory group from various sectors to revise the 2040 Incheon Urban Master Plan.

The advisory group, consisting of 50 members including researchers from the Incheon Institute, university professors, and private experts, will focus on discussing methods to establish the Incheon Urban Master Plan in a way that is easy for citizens to understand.

Although the city established the 2040 Incheon Urban Master Plan in 2022, it initiated a revision project in March last year to reflect the introduction of redevelopment systems for aging planned cities such as Yeonsu, Guwol, and Gyesan, as well as the redevelopment of Incheon Inner Port Piers 1 and 8.

The Urban Master Plan, institutionalized in 1981, has been developed nationwide in a format that lists various themes comprehensively. In the case of the "Incheon Urban Master Plan," it spans 600 pages, making it complex and difficult to understand, and it has been criticized for failing to serve as a guideline for subordinate plans such as urban management plans.

In contrast, global advanced cities overseas such as New York, London, Tokyo, and Melbourne clearly systematize their visions, goals, and strategies for the future they aspire to, and structure their urban master plans focusing on the implementation of the plan contents.

At this advisory meeting, the city introduced various spatial strategic plans aimed at leaping forward as a global city, and decided to compose a strategic plan format and content that best fits Incheon by collecting expert opinions.

An official from Incheon City stated, "The revised 2040 Incheon Urban Master Plan will be announced by the end of this year after national land planning evaluation and government consultations," adding, "The contents of the expert advisory group will be included in the report and made available to the public."
