Seizure of Electronic Devices to Secure Evidence
As the general elections are underway in India over a six-week period, the head of social media for the main opposition party was arrested by the police on charges of manipulating a video of the Home Minister.
According to foreign media on the 5th (local time), Arun Reddy, the head of social media for the Indian National Congress (INC), the main opposition party in the federal parliament, was arrested on the 3rd. Reddy allegedly manipulated a video of Amit Shah, the federal government's Home Minister, to make it appear as if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that if they win the general election, they would abolish benefits related to education and jobs granted constitutionally to the lower castes and the poor.
The INC claimed that Reddy was not involved in the video manipulation. The police reportedly confiscated Reddy's electronic devices to secure digital evidence. Earlier, on the 29th of last month, the police arrested one INC member on charges related to the video manipulation.
