Kim Song-ju, North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations, stated on the 5th regarding the conclusion of the expert panel activities under the UN Security Council's North Korea Sanctions Committee, "Even if second and third expert panels are organized, they are destined to self-terminate over time."

In a statement to the Korean Central News Agency on the same day, Ambassador Kim said, "The international public opinion has already turned its back not only on the UN Security Council's North Korea Sanctions Committee expert panel, which has deceived the world with fabricated materials and public opinion manipulation, but also on the forces that regarded the UN merely as a tool for global domination."

Ambassador Kim likened the joint statement issued by 50 UN member states on the termination of the North Korea sanctions expert panel on the 1st to a eulogy, calling it "the historical judgment on an illegal slanderous organization that has served as a tool of hegemony for the United States and Western countries."

He criticized, "No matter how unwilling they are to admit it, the United States and Western countries must humbly accept reality and seriously reflect on their failure in hostile policies toward North Korea, which have been consistent with arrogance and self-righteousness."

The Security Council put to a vote on the 28th of last month a proposal to extend the mandate of the expert panel monitoring the implementation of North Korea sanctions, but it was rejected due to a veto by Russia, a permanent member.
