Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 5th that it held the ‘2024 Model Youth and Meritorious Person Commendation Ceremony’ at the district office auditorium on the 3rd and awarded certificates of commendation to 53 model youths and contributors to youth development.
This commendation ceremony was organized to encourage local youths who serve as role models in various fields and spread positive influence around them. Certificates were awarded to 48 model youths, and five contributors who have worked hard to foster healthy youth development by promoting various activities such as counseling and career experience programs for youth were also recognized.
The event was attended by about 130 people, including awardees and their parents. The ceremony featured a pre-event performance by the classical music group ‘Clasis’ and a congratulatory performance by the youth band ‘3.14 (Samjeomilsa).’ A ‘Youth Hope Photo Zone’ was also set up to allow youths and parents to enjoy the event like a festival.
The commendation recipients were selected through recommendations from local schools, community service centers, local children’s centers, and youth-related organizations and institutions, followed by deliberation by the Seocho-gu Public Evaluation Committee.
The awards were given in four categories: ▲‘Leadership,’ for those who take initiative in all tasks and demonstrate outstanding drive ▲‘Volunteer Service,’ for those who practice consideration and sharing with friends and neighbors with a kind heart ▲‘Filial Piety and Brotherhood,’ for those who behave politely toward parents and elders and respectfully honor them ▲‘Creative Activities,’ for those who stand out with innovative and original ideas.
One student who received a commendation said, “I thought the district office commendation ceremony would be formal and stiff, but watching the exciting performances felt like attending a celebration party, and I took commemorative photos with my family at the photo zone. The encouragement and congratulations I received today will be a great strength in planning my future.”
Among the students selected as model youths this year were many who serve as role models to others, including ▲a student who planned experiential programs to revitalize youth leisure culture and actively volunteered as an assistant instructor ▲a student who struggled to adapt to school life but passed the qualification exam through consistent counseling participation and effort, and founded a club to pursue their dream of becoming a dancer ▲a student who, as the eldest daughter in a single-parent family, diligently manages school life and household responsibilities and exemplifies excellent character.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “We will continue to pay attention and provide ongoing support so that youths, the future leaders, can have dreams and hopes and put them into practice.”
