Ozone Advisory Issued for 11 Districts in Seoul Downtown and Northeast Areas

The Korea Environment Corporation under the Ministry of Environment announced that an ozone advisory has been issued as of 2 PM on the 4th for 11 districts in downtown Seoul and the northeastern area.


The districts under the ozone advisory are Jung-gu, Jongno-gu, Yongsan-gu, Gwangjin-gu, Seongdong-gu, Jungnang-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Seongbuk-gu, Dobong-gu, Gangbuk-gu, and Nowon-gu.


The hourly average ozone concentration in the advisory areas as of 2 PM is 0.1278 ppm (parts per million) in the downtown area and 0.1274 ppm in the northeastern area.


Previously, ozone advisories were also issued for 4 districts in the southeastern area, 7 districts in the southwestern area, and 3 districts in the northwestern area.


An ozone advisory is issued when the 1-hour average ozone concentration in the air is 0.12 ppm or higher, an ozone warning at 0.30 ppm or higher, and an ozone severe warning at 0.50 ppm or higher.


When an ozone advisory is issued, elderly people, children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions should refrain from outdoor activities. It is also recommended that the general public avoid outdoor activities or strenuous exercise.
