Gwangju Merchants Hold Up to 18% 'Nanum Sale' During 5·18 Memorial Week

Gwangju City and merchant representatives agreed to unite their intentions to lead the practice of the precious history of May Gwangju and realize a sense of community.

In May 1980, Gwangju treated the wounded through blood donations and overcame hunger with rice balls, protecting democracy and community. This will be carried out as a public-private cooperative project that practices the spirit of sharing and solidarity of Gwangju and enhances the image of May Gwangju.

According to the agreement, they will inherit and practice the proud Gwangju spirit of sharing and solidarity through ▲ participation in the 5·18 Memorial Week Sharing Sale event ▲ promotion of participating Sharing Sale businesses, support for promotional materials, and encouragement of product purchases ▲ continuous consultation for discovering, promoting, and participating in projects to carry on the spirit of 5·18.

The participating businesses include Gungjeon Bakery, Bebier, Yangdong Covered Market, Yongbong-dong Fashion Street, and Bongseon Market.

The businesses that signed the Sharing Sale agreement plan to hold special discount events ranging from 5% to a maximum of 18% from the 15th to the 19th, during the 5·18 Memorial Week.

Gwangju City will lead the purchase of products from participating businesses starting with public officials, support through promotion, and welcome visitors to May Gwangju coming from all over the country.

Lee Sang-gap, Deputy Mayor of Culture and Economy, said, “This agreement will be a turning point in practicing the Gwangju spirit,” and added, “I hope the Sharing Sale expands further and the sales of participating businesses increase significantly.”
