Marking its 20th anniversary since its first event in 2004, the ‘2024 Pohang International Fireworks Festival’ will be held for three days from May 31 to June 2 at Yeongildae Beach and its surrounding areas.

On the 3rd, Pohang City held a ‘2024 Pohang International Fireworks Festival Departmental Preparation Status Review Meeting’ chaired by Vice Mayor Jang Sang-gil at the city hall’s main conference room, with related agencies and departments in attendance, about a month ahead of the festival.

Starting with a comprehensive report from the Pohang Cultural Foundation, based on preparation status reports from over 20 departments, the progress was reviewed together with related organizations such as the Pohang South and North Police Stations, Pohang South and North Fire Stations, Pohang Coast Guard, and the event agency. The meeting focused intensively on matters requiring organic cooperation between departments.

As many tourists are expected to visit Pohang during the festival period, the city plans to continuously monitor on-site conditions to ensure visitors to the festival site experience no inconvenience. They will make every effort in advance by cooperating with the Cultural Foundation and related organizations across various fields including festival programs, traffic, safety management, and linked events.

This year, in addition to the festival’s highlight ‘Grand Finale (Korea)’ featuring the night views of Yeongil Bridge and POSCO, the festival will host the ‘International Fireworks Competition’ for the first time, with participation from three countries: the United Kingdom, Australia, and China, where spectators will select the winning fireworks team.

Notably, this year’s festival will feature a special ‘Light Drone Show’ illuminating the night sky with 1,000 drones, expected to captivate the audience’s attention.

Additionally, the festival will offer various attractions including new festival content specialized in fire and light such as the fire-based circus ‘Fire Dream Theater’ and the aerial ‘Flying Performance’ accompanied by lights, as well as a light experience zone, Pong Restaurant, PH Market, and a variety of sights, food, and entertainment.

Vice Mayor Jang Sang-gil stated, “All related departments and agencies are taking pride in Pohang International Fireworks Festival, our city’s representative festival, and are doing their best to ensure it is a successful and safe event.” He added, “Over the remaining month, we will continuously review shortcomings and improvements from the perspective of tourists to make the festival convenient and safe.”
