Gwanak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has created waterfront infrastructure along Byeolbitnaerin Stream (Dorimcheon) and held a completion ceremony for the ‘Byeolbitnaerin Stream Waterfront Infrastructure Project’ at the site on the 3rd. The district plans to develop this area into a representative attraction of southwestern Seoul.

The district expanded pedestrian-centered decks by modifying the upper road, parking, and sidewalk systems without constructing symbolic landmarks or large buildings along Byeolbitnaerin Stream. Additionally, a waterfront terrace was created along the stream’s boundary where residents can sit, relax, or enjoy a drink.

The waterfront terrace will be used as a space for various events such as busking, book fairs, and night markets. A Byeolbit Garden, blending flowers and nature, was also established in the area. The damaged lawn section near Bongnim Bridge on Byeolbitnaerin Stream was transformed into a garden showcasing colorful changes throughout the four seasons and opened on the 1st.

Alongside this, the district plans to complete the ecological stream restoration project for the section from Seoul National University Main Gate to Dongbang 1 Bridge along Byeolbitnaerin Stream by next month, and finish creating a specialized nighttime landscape and rest facility space around the Sinlim Line station by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the ‘2024 Gwanak Spring Festival HAPPY FESTIVAL’ will be held at Byeolbitnaerin Stream on the 4th and 5th. The festival will feature a variety of programs and food booths that all generations can enjoy, including trot, folk songs, popera, street performances of samulnori, the traditional Korean musical Ddongbyeorak, and a bubble magic show. The district plans to utilize Byeolbitnaerin Stream as a new growth engine for the local economy by linking it with local merchant associations.

On the 25th of this month, the ‘Sinlim-dong Byeolbit Street Festival’ will be held near Byeolbitnaerin Stream. The Byeolbit Street Festival is an alleyway commercial district festival where Byeolbit Street merchants and local residents participate together. It will feature various event programs to boost sales in the commercial district and provide picnic tents, camping lanterns, and lawn mats for relaxation.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “We will work even harder in cooperation with Seoul City and the market merchant associations to promote the development of Byeolbitnaerin Stream and the surrounding commercial districts.”
