Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Hosts the 17th World Multicultural Day Ceremony

World Multicultural Day is a legal commemorative day established in 2007 with the purpose of creating a multicultural society where people from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds understand and coexist with each other, designated as May 20.

On this day, Gwangsan-gu held a commemorative ceremony attended by public officials and citizens in the Yunsangwon Hall on the 7th floor of the district office, linked with the Win-Win Sharing Yard.

The event began with a congratulatory performance by the Koryoin Village Children's Choir (Director Jo Jeonghee), followed by a video screening on the theme of spreading the values of coexistence and mutual prosperity, and an award ceremony for five foreign residents who contributed to community integration.

In particular, the award attracted attention as the Koryoin art master Mun Viktor, who has portrayed the history, culture, and figures of the Koryoin on canvas, was among the recipients. Mun Viktor settled in Gwangsan-gu’s Koryoin Village earlier this year and operates the ‘Mun Viktor Art Museum.’

Following the commemorative event, Gwangsan-gu plans to conduct a ‘Cultural Diversity Awareness Improvement Campaign’ targeting public officials on the day of ‘World Multicultural Day’ (May 20). Additionally, they will invite multicultural awareness experts to hold a ‘Cultural Diversity Understanding Education’ session and promote a ‘Intercultural Understanding Campaign’ in the Wolgok area, where many foreign residents live.
