Mokpo National University to Host 'Humanities Concert with Author Yusiminn' on the 23rd

With Poet Hwang Ji-woo, the First Stage of the Humanities Concert Inviting Local Residents

National Mokpo University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced on the 3rd that it will hold a humanities concert in the form of a lecture and dialogue by inviting writer Yoo Si-min (former chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation) as the first event of the ‘Humanities Concert with Poet Hwang Ji-woo.’

The event will be held on the 23rd at 6 p.m. at the Cheonggang Academy Hall in the 70th Anniversary Memorial Hall of National Mokpo University, jointly hosted by National Mokpo University, Mokpo City (Mayor Park Hong-ryul), and the Mokpo Cultural City Center (Director Lee Bang-su).

This concert is a place where the intellect of the era meets the humanities, and it will be held six times this year. Poet Hwang Ji-woo (former president of Korea National University of Arts) will lead the dialogue, facilitating in-depth discussions.

Additionally, a schedule covering various fields of humanities is planned, expected to provide the audience with rich knowledge and experiences.

Starting with writer Yoo Si-min, pianist Kim Kyu-hyun (Seoul National University professor) will participate on the 27th of next month, historian Jeon Woo-yong (former Hanyang University professor) on July 25th, novelist Hwang Seok-young on September 26th, life scientist Choi Jae-chun (Ph.D. from Harvard University) on October 17th, and actor Moon Sung-geun on November 21st as distinguished guests.

Each participant is expected to share their experiences and knowledge in their respective fields and communicate with students, faculty, and local residents.

At this concert, writer Yoo Si-min will give a lecture titled ‘Comparing Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun from the Perspective of Presidential Studies: Their Characteristics and Legacies? My Modern Korean History.’

Yoo Si-min has served as the host of MBC’s ‘100-Minute Debate’ and as Minister of Health and Welfare. He has appeared on TV programs such as ‘Altteul Sinjab’ and ‘Ssuljeon,’ gaining high public recognition, and has published numerous books including Youth Reading, My Modern Korean History, and The History of History.

Poet Hwang Ji-woo, who leads the overall humanities concert as the dialogue host, was born in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, and served as president of Korea National University of Arts. His major works include Birds Also Leave the World, I Am You, and A Banquet for the Outside.

President Song Ha-cheol of National Mokpo University stated, “Through the humanities concert, not only the transmission of education and knowledge but also interaction with the local community is very important,” adding, “We plan to continue organizing humanities programs in various fields.”

This lecture is being promoted as National Mokpo University proposed joint hosting for a ‘Humanities Concert’ with more local residents, and Mokpo City and the Mokpo Cultural City Center responded positively. It is part of the ‘Cultural Gaetmul School,’ a project for the creation of Mokpo Cultural City.

The humanities concert featuring writer Yoo Si-min will be held free of charge. In the future, participants can apply online on a first-come, first-served basis, and related announcements will be made later.
