Gyeonggi Province signed a business agreement with Isunhwan Governance on the 3rd to promote the recycling of discarded home appliances.
Gyeonggi Province has partnered with ‘Isunhwan Governance’ (formerly Korea Electronics Product Resource Circulation Cooperative) to promote the collection and recycling of discarded electronic appliances.
On the 3rd, Gyeonggi Province announced that it signed a business agreement with Isunhwan Governance at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government main conference room. The agreement includes administrative support to promote the disposal and recycling of discarded electronic appliances and the provision of infrastructure for the collection of small and medium-sized discarded electronic appliances.
Previously, residents had to gather at least five small and medium-sized electronic appliances to dispose of them free of charge, causing inconvenience for those who wanted to dispose of only one or two items, as they had to bear the cost of waste stickers and other processing fees.
However, under this new agreement, residents can now easily dispose of small quantities of one or two discarded electronic appliances. Additionally, unlike the previous system where residents had to apply through the official website or phone operated by Isunhwan Governance to dispose of discarded electronic appliances, this new system establishes collection points at apartment complexes or village units and operates concentrated collection days. This is expected to greatly assist the elderly, who previously struggled with the complicated application procedures.
Nineteen cities and counties, including Suwon and Yongin, are participating in this project.
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Through this agreement, the disposal and recycling process of discarded electronic appliances will become more efficient, greatly reducing the inconvenience for residents," and added, "Active participation and cooperation from residents are necessary for the proper separation and disposal of discarded electronic appliances."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province collected and recycled 18,833 tons of discarded electronic products last year through the free home-visit collection service it had been operating, achieving a carbon reduction effect of 58,275 CO2 eq.
Based on these achievements, Gyeonggi Province plans to continuously improve and expand the collection and recycling system for discarded electronic appliances. Through this, it is expected to further enhance the convenience of recycling for Gyeonggi residents and contribute to environmental protection.
