Middle and High School Teachers' 'Digital-Based Class Sharing Relay'
College of Education Students as 'Pre-Service Teachers' Also Participate
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has rolled up its sleeves to enhance the teaching expertise not only of current teachers but also of ‘pre-service teachers,’ university students belonging to colleges of education.
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) announced on the 3rd that it will operate the ‘Digital-Based Lesson Sharing Relay’ from the 7th of this month to July 10th, targeting middle and high school teachers as well as university students from colleges of education.
The ‘Lesson Sharing Relay’ is a program that fosters teachers’ instructional expertise through voluntary lesson disclosure and sharing of teaching cases.
This year, the focus is on developing digital-based future-oriented teaching and learning models and discovering and sharing excellent student-centered learning cases, advancing Busan-style digital-based educational innovation.
The Office of Education will run the relay divided into ‘Lesson Disclosure Sharing’ and ‘Teaching Case Sharing.’
‘Lesson Disclosure Sharing’ is conducted by publicly sharing various forms of excellent lessons such as co-teaching, block time classes, and interdisciplinary lessons. Additionally, a ‘Lesson Talk’ session is arranged where participating teachers and attendees can ask and answer questions about the lesson’s focus and research process.
‘Teaching Case Sharing,’ operated both online and offline, involves presentations of teaching cases based on digital-based lesson research topics such as AI and edutech.
In this relay, 53 teachers will participate in sharing teaching cases and lesson disclosures, and about 800 teachers and university students will take part, a significant increase compared to 167 participants last year. An official from the Office of Education stated that the policy direction emphasizing lesson innovation and the voluntary interest of field teachers in lesson innovation seem to have been effective.
In particular, this year, pre-service teachers who are students of the College of Education at Pusan National University are also given the opportunity to participate to enhance their teaching capabilities. Students participating in the relay will be awarded 5 points per hour as mileage under the ‘Bridge Talent Scholarship Program.’
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “This relay will help not only foster a collaborative learning culture among teachers but also strengthen the teaching capabilities of pre-service teachers. The Office of Education will do its best to support the practice of lesson sharing centered on school sites and create a growing lesson culture together.”
