Local governments are hosting 'Walking King' events to encourage 'walking exercise' that can be easily enjoyed in daily life. It is worth trying as you can enjoy a light walk every day while feeling the warm spring breeze and receive souvenirs upon achieving your goals.
Chungju City in Chungbuk Province has been conducting the '2024 Chungju City Walking King Selection Event' from the 5th of this month until the 29th of next month.
Chungju City established a mobile walking app at the end of November 2021, and as of the end of April, 2 years and 5 months later, about 9% of Chungju citizens, or 19,112 people, have signed up for the app, showing a strong walking craze. The Chungju City Public Health Center plans to hold the 'Walking King Selection Event' until the end of June, when the number of participants is expected to exceed 20,000, to help form healthy lifestyle habits through proper walking and promote citizens' health through continuous walking practice.
In this event, the top 10 participants will be selected based on their walking practice rate during the operation period and their participation rate in the walking challenge from January to June this year. In case of a tie in walking practice rate, priority will be given based on the number of steps taken. The top 10 walkers will be awarded the Chungju Mayor's Award in early July.
Citizens who wish to participate can download the 'WalkOn' app from the smartphone Play Store or App Store, sign up as members, search for Chungju City in the region name, and join the official Chungju community 'Let's Walk Together Around the Neighborhood.'
Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province is also conducting the '2024 Walking King Individual Competition.' It started on the 1st of last month for Uijeongbu citizens and will run until the 30th of next month through the mobile app 'WalkOn.'
During the project period, monthly walking challenges will encourage walking practice, and excellent participants will receive promotional items. Citizens who wish to participate can use the WalkOn app, sign up as members, search for 'Uijeongbu' or 'Uijeongbu City Public Health Center' in the region search field, and join the Walking King Individual Competition community.
A representative from the Uijeongbu City Public Health Center said, "We will do our best to help citizens prevent and manage diseases through the Walking King Individual Competition."
