Ulsan City announced on the 3rd that it will hold the ‘2024 Taehwagang National Garden Spring Flower Festival’ under the theme ‘Opening Spring Gardens with Flowers’ from May 17 to 19 at the Taehwagang National Garden area.
The Taehwagang National Garden Spring Flower Festival, wishing for the hosting of the ‘2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo,’ will welcome visitors with 60 million flowers of five varieties?poppies, peonies, cornflowers, baby's breath, and coreopsis?spread over an area of 28,000㎡.
The naturalistic garden flowers designed by Piet Oudolf, now in their second year since creation, are also preparing to greet guests anew.
The event will feature a variety of programs including ▲opening ceremony (children’s choir performance, opening ceremony) ▲performances ▲mobile companion plant clinic and wildflower exhibition ▲mini gardens, and companion tree adoption booths.
The opening ceremony will be held on the 17th at 6:50 PM on the special stage at Wangbeodeul Square, featuring a special performance by the Ulsan Children’s United Choir and a congratulatory performance by singer Taei themed around spring flowers.
During the festival, performances will take place on the 18th and 19th at Wangbeodeul Square, including the children’s original puppet show ‘Taehwagang - The Dream of Salmon’ and a children’s magic show.
Additionally, programs suitable for various age groups will be presented, such as the Spring Garden Classical Night combining The Strings Chamber Orchestra and vocal music (on the 18th), and a youth dance competition (on the 19th).
In cooperation with the Korea Forest Service, a mobile companion plant clinic will operate for two days on the 17th and 18th, providing diagnosis and treatment for companion plants.
At the ‘Garden Experience Booth’ set up in Sopung Square, various garden exhibition and experience programs will be offered, including mini garden making, companion tree adoption, bouquet making, and vegetable garden (urban agriculture) activities.
To promote the value of the Taehwagang National Garden and revitalize garden culture, various children and family experience events will be held, such as a novice gardener contest, happy gardener activities, little gardener programs, and a potato digging experience event.
In particular, the ‘Potato Digging Experience Event,’ prepared as a special event for this year’s spring flower festival, allows participants to dig up and take home potatoes grown in the national garden. Participants can register online (70%) starting from the 7th via the website, and on-site registration (30%) will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event.
For the first time at the spring flower festival, a children’s drawing contest for 200 elementary school students from Ulsan will be held at the Rainbow Fountain Garden within the national garden.
Other events include an ecological photo exhibition showcasing the four colors of the beautiful Taehwagang National Garden (birds, mushrooms, wildflowers, fish), an exhibition of wildflower bonsai native to Taehwagang, a wedding-themed photo stage (photo zone) set against spring flowers, and a mobile camera operation.
At night, for visitors’ convenience, the event site will be illuminated from 7 PM to 10 PM with spring flower towers installed around the flower garden, night string lights along the Zelkova tree path, and LED lighting in the Taehwagang stream.
An official from Ulsan City said, “Through this spring flower festival, we hope to raise the image of Ulsan as a garden city and support the bid for the ‘2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo.’ We also expect the Taehwagang National Garden to become a beloved healing spot for all citizens by providing visitors with healing and rest.”
