Ganghwado has been a refuge for overcoming national crises and the starting point of peace tourism on the Korean Peninsula. It has served as a refuge (sanctuary) during moments of national crisis and has protected the peace of the Republic of Korea. On the northern coast of Ganghwa, facing North Korea, old military facilities called dondae still play a role in national defense and peace.
Walking along the coastal fence line trail starting from Uidubuncho included in this Ganghwa theme route, visitors can enjoy a retro-sentimental time travel at Daeryong Market, which was the living place of displaced persons. There are also various sights such as Yeonmijeong, where the Han River and Imjin River meet, and Goryeo Cheondo Park, which depicts the relocation from Gaegyeong to Ganghwado during the Mongol invasions.
