Jung-gu to Renovate Old Houses in Namsan Height District with KT Estate

Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gilsung) is partnering with KT Estate to repair old houses for low-income residents within the Namsan Height Restriction Zone.

On the afternoon of the 2nd, Jung-gu Office held a public-private cooperation agreement ceremony for the "Old House Repair Service in the Namsan Height Restriction Zone (Namsan de Maison)" with the attendance of Kim Gilsung, Mayor of Jung-gu, and Choi Namcheol, CEO of KT Estate.

The old house repair service is a project promoted by Jung-gu to improve the residential environment and residents' satisfaction following the relaxation of height restrictions in Namsan, and KT Estate is participating as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The target beneficiaries are low-income households living in Type 1 and 2 general residential areas within the Namsan Height Restriction Zone. The purpose is to provide benefits to households unable to afford repairs, mainly in areas excluded from the recent height restriction relaxation.

According to the agreement, Jung-gu will be responsible for selecting target households, negotiating with property owners, and providing administrative support, while KT Estate will cover all construction costs and provide professional manpower support.

Additionally, on the day of construction, employees from Jung-gu Office and KT Estate will volunteer to assist with the repairs.

Both parties plan to complete the selection of target households and on-site inspections within this month and carry out the house repair cooperation project by October.

Kim Gilsung, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, “The Namsan height restriction, which has hindered regional development for 30 years, is about to be relaxed,” adding, “I am proud of this very meaningful achievement made possible through the united communication between the district and residents.” He also expressed gratitude, saying, “Although buildings can now be constructed taller in areas where height restrictions have been eased, I am very thankful that KT Estate is participating in improving old houses that cannot benefit from this change.”

As part of the follow-up projects after the relaxation of the Namsan height restriction, Jung-gu is promoting the "Preliminary Design Review Service by Home Design Experts (Namsan de Dessin)" alongside the ‘Namsan de Maison’ project to revitalize new construction within the Namsan Height Restriction Zone.

‘Namsan de Dessin’ involves architects preparing conceptual design plans for new buildings assuming the application of the relaxed height restrictions. Jung-gu collaborates with the Jung-gu Architects Association to provide this professional service at an affordable cost. Applications are being accepted until the 31st of this month for five buildings within the Namsan Height Restriction Zone, with plans to support 60 cases.
