'Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Peace Road' Themed Route Opens on the 14th Yeoncheon January 21 Infiltration Exploration Course

Gyeonggi Province will open the ‘Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Peace Road Theme Route’ on the 14th.

The DMZ Peace Road Theme Route is a route linked to the civilian control line areas’ tourist resources in 10 cities and counties in the border regions of Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Gangwon provinces. It is also a program jointly conducted by related ministries including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Ministry of National Defense.

The program was prepared to provide an opportunity to directly walk along the DMZ area and barbed wire fences to reflect on the preciousness of ‘freedom and peace,’ and to explore ecological, historical, and security tourism sites.

Gyeonggi Province operates theme route programs in the Gimpo, Goyang, Paju, and Yeoncheon areas. Applications have been accepted since the 30th of last month through the Durunubi website (https://www.durunubi.kr) and the Durunubi mobile app. The participation fee is 10,000 KRW, which is refunded in local specialties and other items. However, since it is a civilian control line area, participants must bring identification.

The four theme routes in Gyeonggi Province are ▲ the ‘Gimpo Hangang Estuary - Aegibong Course,’ where you can vividly see Jogang (祖江), where the Imjin River, Yesong River, and Han River converge, and North Korea’s propaganda village ▲ the ‘Goyang Janghang Wetland Ecological Course,’ where you can experience Janghang Wetland and Haengju Fortress ▲ the ‘Paju Imjingak - Dorasan Course,’ which includes ecological trails along the Imjin River, the Dora Observatory with a clear view of Kaesong city in North Korea, and the Dora Mountain Peace Park symbolizing the wish for peace and security tourism sites ▲ and the ‘Yeoncheon 1·21 Infiltration Route Exploration Course,’ which includes the 1·21 infiltration route and Horogoru, a military strategic point from the Three Kingdoms period.

The routes proceed with walking sections and vehicle transfer sections, and through guides and assistants composed of local residents, participants can hear interesting stories related to the tourist resources that can only be seen in the border areas.
