Gyeonggi Province will launch a senior health management project using artificial intelligence (AI) starting in July.
On the 3rd, Gyeonggi Province announced that from July, it will conduct the "Neulpyeonhan AI Care Pilot Project" targeting 1,000 seniors aged 65 and older within the province.
The Neulpyeonhan AI Care Pilot Project is an AI-based "smartphone utilization care service" that monitors seniors' well-being and health status through movement detection and biometric recognition via an app installed on their mobile phones. It is the first nationwide service to provide integrated AI care using only smartphones, without separate care robots or smartwatches.
If a senior has installed the Waplat public application developed by NHN-Waplat and their phone remains inactive for 24 hours, an SOS emergency alert is sent to a care manager. The care manager then checks on the senior by phone or in person.
Additionally, by touching a finger on the phone camera for 15 seconds, blood flow is checked to provide information on cardiovascular health. An AI algorithm also generates health reports for care managers to monitor. Seniors will periodically perform self-assessments for dementia risk, and the results will be sent to care managers for management.
Gyeonggi Province will accept applications from seniors wishing to participate in this project starting in May at 35 home care service centers in the respective cities and counties.
On the 2nd, Gyeonggi Province signed a business agreement with NHN-Waplat Co., Ltd. and the Gyeonggi Province Home Care Senior Welfare Association to pilot the Neulpyeonhan AI Care project.
Oh Byeong-kwon, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "With the increase in the elderly population, the demand for integrated care such as well-being checks and health management is also rising. We will continue to actively utilize AI technology to lead the creation of a sustainable care system that can prepare for a super-aged society."
