Busan Gijang-gun, a 'Thousand Picture Books' Journey with the Library

Children's Reading Project 'Cheon Gwon-ui Geurimchaek' Operation

Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) will launch the children's reading project "One Thousand Picture Books" starting in May.

Busan Gijang-gun, a 'Thousand Picture Books' Journey with the Library Guide to the Cheongwon Picture Book Event.

This project encourages children to take on the challenge of "reading one thousand picture books" to foster reading habits during childhood.

Only children aged 5 to 2nd grade in elementary school can participate. Participants who borrow and read all 200 picture book sets, each containing 5 books, and complete the stamp book will receive a "One Thousand Picture Books" certificate and medal.

The event will initially be held at two public libraries in Gijang-gun (Jeonggwan Library and Naerisaera Library), and the Jeonggwan Children's Library will start operating the program from July this year.

Children who wish to participate can apply on the Gijang-gun Library website, visit the respective library to receive the picture book list and stamp book, and borrow the picture book sets.

There is no fixed period for the challenge to read one thousand books; participants can freely read picture books according to their individual reading habits.

A Gijang-gun official stated, "We expect that this 'One Thousand Picture Books Reading' project will greatly help not only in forming children's reading habits but also in emotional development," adding, "It can also be used for children's reading education, serving as a foundation for positive reading growth."

For more details, please visit the website or contact Jeonggwan Library and Naerisaera Library.
