Expectations for Marine Leisure Hub City Infrastructure as a Center for Work and Recreation
The first "Jeollanam-do Blue Workation Center" has opened at the International Pavilion of the Yeosu World Expo Site.
On the morning of the 2nd, Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) held an opening ceremony for the center attended by about 30 people, including Vice Mayor Kim Jong-gi, officials from Jeollanam-do and Yeosu City, city and provincial council members, and representatives of program participating organizations.
According to the city, Jeollanam-do is focusing on the "Blue Workation" project, which allows people to enjoy work and vacation simultaneously by utilizing the region's natural environment such as islands, marine areas, and forests, as well as local infrastructure. Yeosu City was selected last year as the first project site.
The Yeosu City Workation program offers remote workers accommodations, shared office spaces, and tourism products such as the aquarium, yacht programs, and the Arte Museum.
The newly opened "Jeollanam-do Blue Workation Center (Yeosu City Shared Office)" is designed as an indoor space where workers can overlook the sea of Yeosu at a glance, equipped with facilities suitable for remote work, and serves as a workation hub office accommodating up to 20 people.
Individuals wishing to participate in the workation can apply through the Seoul Business Agency Workation website, and detailed information on participation methods will be provided through the Yeosu City website.
Yeosu City expects to attract more participants through the improved infrastructure, as the project proved its competitiveness with 127 participants during the one-month pilot operation period from November to December last year.
Jung Jae-ho, Director of the Fisheries Tourism Bureau, said, "The workation project is one of the core projects that can attract a living population, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism are aiming to foster related effective projects." He added, "In line with the central government’s policy direction, we will expand workation infrastructure so that Yeosu City can become a hub where work and leisure coexist."
