The Gyeongnam Global Game Center was established to create a game industry ecosystem based in the region and to secure regional industrial driving forces such as youth job creation.

The center was created with a total budget of 1.2 billion KRW, including 600 million KRW from the national government and 300 million KRW from the city government, occupying 1,276㎡ on the 1st and 3rd floors of Hanma Hall at Gyeongnam National University. The first floor features a 30-seat game station where commercial games can be experienced and a game production training room, while the third floor is equipped with spaces for 14 resident companies and conference rooms.

Major projects planned include ▲Game Startup Classes ▲Support for game production by resident companies ▲Accelerating support for game company advancement ▲Global marketing ▲Support for participation in global exhibitions ▲Internship programs ▲Game Academy, among others.

Vice Mayor Jo said, “Changwon has the largest number of content industry infrastructures in the province and is home to more than 34% of the province’s youth population, giving it an advantage in the potential of ‘youth talent in the content field.’ We will lead the way as a digital cultural content leading city by building a youth-centered ‘game content industry ecosystem.’”

Prior to this, after deciding to establish the Gyeongnam Global Game Center in March last year, Changwon City signed a business agreement on fostering the game industry with NCSoft, Gyeongnam National University, Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Foundation, and Assemblyman Choi Hyung-doo. Efforts are being made to create a game industry ecosystem based on industry-government-academia cooperation, including the establishment of a game department at Gyeongnam National University this year.

Currently, 12 companies, including ‘Play Mephisto Waltz,’ have been selected as residents and will begin full-scale operations starting in May.
