Daegu City announced that the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Railroad project was selected as a preliminary feasibility study target project at the Financial Project Evaluation Committee held by the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 2nd.


The New Airport Railroad is a metropolitan express railroad connecting Daegu, TK New Airport, and Uiseong, with a project cost of 2.6485 trillion KRW (based on the preliminary feasibility study application). It is a key access railroad to the new airport and an important railroad network construction project connecting the Gyeongbu Line and the Jungang Line. The length of the newly constructed section of this railroad is 65 km, and including the connecting parts, it totals 70.1 km.

This project is a leading metropolitan railroad project in local areas reflected in the 4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan in July 2021. It is a follow-up measure promoted as part of the 'Introduction of Metropolitan Express Railroad in Local Areas' announced at the presidential public discussion meetings held in January and March. It was finally selected as a preliminary feasibility study target project in the Ministry of Economy and Finance's review. Accordingly, Daegu City plans to make every effort to ensure a swift passage of the preliminary feasibility study so that the railroad can open in time for the TK New Airport's inauguration.


The New Airport Railroad is expected to deploy GTX-class vehicles with a maximum speed of 180 km/h. Once the New Airport Railroad opens, it will be possible to travel from Daegu to the new airport within 30 minutes, establishing a transportation network that allows quick access to the TK New Airport, greatly contributing to the activation of the new airport.


Furthermore, it is connected with several lines such as the Dalbit Railroad (Daegu-Gwangju), the Gyeongbu Line, and the Jungang Line, expected to create a vast southern economic zone linking Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and several other major local metropolitan areas, bringing revolutionary changes to regional economic development.


Kim Daeyoung, Director of the Daegu City Transportation Bureau, said, “Since the project direction will be determined based on the preliminary feasibility study results, we plan to respond quickly and actively to ensure the final confirmation of this project.” He added, “We will work closely with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to do our best to pass the preliminary feasibility study as soon as possible.”
